India Business Visa
A Business visa is for individuals making sales or establishing contacts in India on behalf of a company outside of India. If you are traveling to India and will be employed by an Indian company, you will need to apply for an employment visa and not a Business visa. If you qualify for a business visa and you plan to bring your family with you, your family members should apply for an entry visa. They can apply for their entry visa(s) once your business visa has been issued. If you are attending a conference or trade show, you will need to apply for a conference visa, not a business visa.
Business visas may be valid for one year or more with multiple entries. Each time you enter you are limited to a stay no more than 6 months from the date of entry. Business visas valid for ten years with multiple entries may be available to foreign businessmen who have set up or intend to set up joint ventures in India. 10 year visas are more difficult to obtain and are rarely issued.

India Tourist Visa
If you are visiting India for tourism only and not conducting ANY business related activity, volunteering, working with charities, or working with non-profit organizations you can apply for a tourist visa. If you are working for charities, volunteering or working for non-profits, you must apply for an Employment visa.
5 year and 10 year Tourist visas are available only to US citizens. There needs to be a 2 month gap between visits to India on a Tourist visa. If you are unable to wait 2 months between visits, you need to apply for a re-entry visa.
Non-US passport holders are only eligible for up to a 6 month Tourist visa, with each visit a maximum allowable stay of 6 months.
