    Travel Spotlight – Jaipur, India

    travel to Jaipur

Visiting the United States for a week and expecting to get a good sense of the whole country is a ridiculous idea. The same is true of a lot of other countries, like Canada, China, Australia, France, and Russia. It’s definitely true of India, where you could spend a month traveling from city to city and still only see a tiny fraction of Indian life.

Today, let’s focus on one of the many great cities that you might travel to India to see – Jaipur.

Jaipur is known as the Pink City, because it’s beautiful buildings were all painted pink originally. It is the biggest city in the state of Rajasthan, and it constitutes the third corner of India’s famous Golden Triangle (along with Agra and Delhi). Here are four things that you should definitely do if you get the chance to visit Jaipur:

    1. Amer Fort

This is the number one thing to do in Jaipur. The Amer Fort sits atop a hill, and you can ride up to the fort on the back of an elephant like the ancient elite used to do, if you like. Inside the fort you’ll find an amazing palace with architecture that is sure to dazzle. Stick around for the nightly light show.

    1. Jal Mahal

Jal Mahal means Water Palace, and when you get a look at this place, you’ll see why the name is absolutely perfect. Nestled on the Mansagar Lake, this palace is the picture of romance and beauty. Here you’ll find both Mughal and Rajput architectural styles and plenty of opportunities to take stunning photographs. Be there at sunset to enjoy the best views.

    1. Shop the Bazaars

Jaipur is home to some of the best bazaars in all of India. Here you can get custom clothing made that will rival the quality of anything you’d get tailored in Thailand, Hong Kong, or Vietnam. Shop for fine fabrics, precious gems, authentic sculptures, and traditional jewelry and clothing. You’ll also find hand-made crafts, leather works, blue pottery, and excellent souvenirs for all your friends back home.

    1. Party All Night

One of the many things Jaipur is famous for is its excellent night life. Put on your most comfortable dancing shoes and head out to the clubs for hip music, delicious dining, and tropical cocktails. The clubs here stay open all night, so get ready to dance until the sun comes up.
