Azerbaijan Embassy Information

Azerbaijan is a landlocked country in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia. It is surrounded by various countries and bodies of water, including the Caspian Sea, Russia, Georgia, Armenia, and Iran. It also shares an 11-kilometer border with Turkey in the northwest region.

The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic declared independence in 1918, becoming the first secular democratic Muslim-majority state before the country was incorporated into the Soviet Union in 1920. Eventually, it reclaimed its independence again and is currently a unitary semi-presidential republic.
