Belarus, which used to be called by its Russian name of Byelorussia or Belorussia, is an Eastern European country that is landlocked and bordered by several countries. These countries include Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia. Minsk is the capital and also the most populous city. The country spans 80,200 square miles. Belarus is focused on the economic sectors of manufacturing and service industries. A referendum in 1995 led the country to have two official languages: Belarusian and Russian. There is no official religion; however, the primary religion is Eastern Orthodox Christianity, followed by Roman catholicism.
