Belgium is a Western European country bordered by the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, France, and the North Sea. Belgium spans 11,849 square miles and more than 11.5 million people call the country home. As such, it is the 22nd most densely populated country in the world. Brussels is the capital of Belgium and also serves as its largest city. Belgium is a federal constitutional monarchy and runs on a parliamentary system. The country is divided into three regions, which operate largely autonomously: the Flemish Region, Wallonia, and the Brussels-Capital Region.
