It is bordered by Gabon, Cameroon, the Central African Republic,  the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Angolan exclave of Cabinda, and the Atlantic Ocean. The sovereign state of Congo has held multi-party elections since 1992; however, the democratically elected government faced instability during the 1997 Republic of the Congo Civil War and was ousted. Congo has an economy that is largely dependent on oil and has faced slowed economic growth since oil prices have dropped since 2015.
