If watching the ball drop from your couch has started to get a bit old, take a look at this list of New Year’s celebrations around the world. Perhaps you can find some inspiration for your next New Year’s party, or better yet, find a new place to visit next year.
- Attend the first big party in Sydney
Thanks to its proximity to the international date line, the first big city that gets to ring in the New year is Sydney. If you want to ring in the New Year before anyone else, head to Sydney to get your jump start. As a great bonus, you’ll get to celebrate during summer, as the seasons are reversed south of the Equator.
- Celebrate in white in Rio de Janeiro
In Rio, people flock to the beaches to watch the fireworks. You’ll see white decorations and clothes around every corner, because white is the traditional color of good luck at New Years in Brazil.
- Party on the beach in Thailand
Thailand is home to a number of small, gorgeous islands, any number of which are great places to ring in the New Year. If you’re looking for a wild party that lasts all night and well into the next day, head to the beaches of Koh Phangan or Koh Phi Phi.
- Dance at black-tie galas in London
If you’re looking for the fanciest party of your life, you’d be hard pressed to beat the black-tie events that happen at the Ritz London. Just don’t be surprised if your elegant affair is crashed by a marching band, making for one of the best parties of your life.
- Go big (and tall) in Dubai
The Burj Khalifa currently holds the record for the tallest building in the world, and every year it puts on a fireworks display unlike any other. Before the big show starts, enjoy a luxurious dinner at any one of Dubai’s world-class restaurants. (The diet can start after midnight.)
- Take a gamble on Las Vegas
If you’d rather stay in the States for New Year’s eve, consider packing your most outlandish outfits and taking a road trip to Vegas. The Strip is closed to traffic, and pedestrians take over. Amidst all the amazing people watching, you’ll get to enjoy firework displays from several of the biggest hotels.
