  • CDC Ends Regular Covid Travel Advisories

For the first time since the start of the pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has stopped regularly updating COVID travel advisories and restrictions. Until now, the CDC has frequently been monitoring the status of COVID-19 in other countries across the globe. The government agency would use this information to advise Americans about the risks associated with visiting certain countries due to the coronavirus and the rules and restrictions in place in these locations.

Curious as to how this change could affect you? Here’s what you should know:

What Was the Purpose of These Travel Advisories?

The primary purpose of these advisories was to help travelers make informed decisions on whether or not they should visit certain destinations. The advisories shared COVID-19 rules, country restrictions, and the risks people may take if they traveled to countries.

Why Did the CDC End Regular Covid Travel Advisories?

One reason the CDC stopped regularly updating its COVID travel advisories is that coronavirus cases across the globe are on the decline. Most places have seen a significant drop in COVID cases, and the hope is that this will continue to stay this way going forward.

Another reason the CDC decided to stop updating COVID travel advisories is that many countries have significantly relaxed their coronavirus rules and restrictions. This means there isn’t much new COVID-related information to report, and updates aren’t necessary.

What is the Current Status of Covid Around the World?

Though the number of COVID-19 cases worldwide seems to be on the decline, there are still many places where COVID is present. According to Our World in Data, as of October 9, 2022, there have been a total of 621 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and 6.56 million deaths. The hope is that the number of COVID cases continues to lessen as more and more people get vaccinated or get a COVID booster shot.

Do I Need to be Vaccinated to Travel Internationally?

Many countries do NOT require travelers to be vaccinated to enter. With that said, a few destinations still have COVID rules and restrictions in place. Before making any international travel plans, make sure that you are aware of any rules and regulations so that you know what you’re getting yourself into.

What Should I Do Before Making International Travel Plans?

Before making any international travel plans, we recommend that you take a look at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website. This site has everything you need to know about keeping yourself safe and healthy, as well as some things that you’ll want to do before leaving the country.

We also highly recommend that you take a look at your essential travel documents. Make sure that your passport and visas are up to date; if they aren’t, you may need to replace or renew them before your trip.
