MAKING TRAVEL EASY FOR FAMILIES

Expedited Child Passport Services

At Swift, we know the process for obtaining a child passport can seem overwhelming.  From completing your child’s application, to making sure each requirement is met, it can be difficult to manage the to-do’s.  This is especially true when you need your child’s passport quickly.  We aim to make the process of applying for and obtaining a child passport as easy as possible.  For years, we’ve helped parents just like you navigate each step, so their child’s passport arrives on-time.

A CHILD PASSPORT IS NEEDED FOR ALL MINORS UNDER THE AGE OF 16, INCLUDING INFANTS, WHEN TRAVELING INTERNATIONALLY.

Applying for a Child Passport

Before you proceed with our online passport service, please make sure you can answer “yes” to all of the questions below.  If you are unsure, you can take our passport quiz to see what option may be right for you.

If you’re applying for your child’s passport, please keep in mind you will need to consider a few things.  First, if your child is a minor, you will need to apply for a new child passport each time.  The second big thing to remember is that you will need to make an appointment with a US Passport Acceptance Agent.  This is a mandatory part of the process and we have created a great resource page on this topic to help you better navigate this critical step.  Finally, you need to consider your departure date and select a service option with a processing time that allows you to receive your child passport well before you depart.

Getting a Child Passport: What You Should Know

When Does a Child Need a Passport?

A passport is required for all minors under the age of 16, including infants and babies, when traveling internationally.

How Long is a Child’s Passport Valid?

Passports issued for minors under the age of 16 are only valid for 5 years.  Passports issued for those who are 16 years and older are valid for 10 years.  If a child’s passport has expired or is nearing expiration, you will need to apply for a new passport.  Passports issued to minors cannot be renewed.

Who Needs to Be Present for a Child’s Passport Application?

Both parents must be present in most cases.  When you apply for a passport for your child, you will make an appointment with a Passport Acceptance Agent and both parents must appear before the Agent.  There are rare exceptions which you can learn more about by reading our blog, “Do Both Parents Need to Be Present for a Child Passport?”.

Does My Child Need a Passport to Travel to Canada or Mexico?

Yes, your child will need a passport in order to travel to Canada and Mexico.

The Fastest Way to Get a Child Passport: 4 Easy Steps

Click Order Now and select Child Passport from our list of service options.  You can then choose your processing time and will be asked to enter in basic information such as your child’s name, date of birth, and date of departure.  After you remit the requested information, you can proceed to checkout or add more passports to your order.  We will inform you of the total price before you submit your order and payment.

Once your order is submitted, you will be provided with a list of documents that you must gather and ship to Swift for your order to be fulfilled.  Some of these documents include:

  • Proof of Citizenship
  • DS-11 Passport Application
  • Passport Photo
  • Copy of both parents’ valid photo ID

Please note, Swift will provide a complete list of documents and instructions after you place your order.  You will be guided step-by-step.

Once you have gathered the required documents, you will need to take them to a post office or county/city clerk to get the application executed by a “passport acceptance agent.” The minor and both parents need to be present for this step (1 parent may be present in cases of sole custody or if they have a notarized DS-3053 from the non-appearing parent). To find a Passport Acceptance Agent near you, just enter your zip code.  Swift suggests calling ahead to the Acceptance Facility to confirm that the details on this website are accurate.

You will then ship your documents to Swift for processing.  Please do NOT send your documents through USPS.  Please ship documents to:

Swift Passport & Visa Services
1 E Erie St.
Suite #525
Chicago, IL 60611

Once Swift receives your documents, we will complete your order and will ship your child’s passport to you.

NOTE:  If you are getting more than 1 application sealed, it is CRUCIAL that each application is in its own sealed envelope. Multiple applications in 1 sealed envelope may be denied and cause extensive delays.
