  • Local Transportation Options to Use While in China

Travel has become an increasingly popular travel destination, with millions of people visiting the country each year. But one thing that we always hear from travelers is that they’re concerned about getting around the country and what type of transportation is available in China. Well, believe it or not, there are many options for transportation around China to choose from that are affordable and easily accessible. Ready to learn more? Here are some excellent local transportation options to use while in China.

    Take a Bus

Taking a bus is an excellent option if you plan on going from one town to another while in China. There are plenty of bus routes available, and buses are typically an inexpensive way to get around. Please be sure to get to the ticket window early to ensure that you are able to get a bus ticket, or purchase your bus tickets in advance when possible!

Bonus Tip: If you are traveling on a bus for an extended period of time, consider spending extra money and getting tickets for a more comfortable bus.

    Hop in a Taxi

Another great local transportation option to use while in China is a taxi. Taxis are abundant in China, and most of the time, you won’t have trouble hailing one. Just make sure you let the taxi know that you want to use their services by politely waving your hand at them as they drive by. Furthermore, be sure to have good etiquette while in your taxi.

Bonus Tip: If you don’t speak Chinese, be sure to use a translator on your phone so that you can communicate with your taxi driver.

    Book a Bike Rental

Riding bikes around China has become more popular over the years and can be a good option for getting around. And in fact, it’s relatively straightforward (and pretty cheap) to book a bike rental. But before going out and riding around town, make sure to put on a helmet and map out where you are going. The last thing you need is to be riding around China and not being sure where you are!

Bonus Tip: If you plan on riding a bike around China, make sure you are aware of your surroundings and doing everything you can to stay safe.

    Take a Train

One of the main ways to get around China is by train. Trains connect many cities and small towns around China and are great for getting you from one place to another. Most trains are comfortable and inexpensive, and there are even trains that you can sleep on for longer trips. Traveling by train is definitely one of the best ways to travel around China and one mode of transportation we highly recommend.

Bonus Tip: Try taking one overnight train to a far-away destination and one train to a destination that’s close by so that you can experience both.

    Walk to Your Destination

One final way to get around China is to walk from one place to another. Many parts of China are walkable, and walking is a great way to exercise while seeing more of what your destination has to offer. If you aren’t sure where you’re going, we highly recommend using Google Maps, using a paper map, or asking someone for directions. Honestly, walking is one of our favorite ways to get from point A to point B while traveling!

Bonus Tip: If you plan on walking a lot while in China, be sure to book a centrally located hotel.
